Babies 45 days to 1 Year

For babies from 45 days to 1 year, the EYFS framework focuses on their holistic development through play-based learning, emphasizing emotional security, physical skills, and communication. Key areas include a focus on personal care, nurturing, and building self-esteem, alongside sensory experiences and activities to develop gross and fine motor skills. Teachers encourage language development through songs, turn-taking, and naming objects to aid in social-emotional and cognitive growth. At Giggles and More Nursery, we understand that the first year of life is the most precious and formative stage in a child’s journey. From just 45 days old to 12 months, babies are growing and learning every moment — exploring the world through their senses, forming bonds, and developing trust. Guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), our baby room provides a warm, nurturing, and stimulating environment where each child feels safe, loved, and valued.

Our approach focuses on the three prime areas of learning within the EYFS — Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED). Every activity, cuddle, and interaction is thoughtfully planned to support these vital areas in a gentle and responsive way. In Communication and Language, babies begin to make sounds, respond to voices, and recognise familiar people. Through constant interaction — soft singing, talking, reading stories, and responding to coos and gestures — our practitioners nurture early communication and listening skills. We celebrate every smile, babble, and first word, knowing that these are the earliest steps toward confident expression. Physical Development starts from the very beginning. Our baby rooms are designed to encourage safe exploration, tummy time, crawling, and first steps. Babies strengthen their muscles, coordination, and balance as they move and play. Fine motor skills develop naturally as they reach, grasp, and explore different textures and sensory materials. Healthy routines such as feeding, rest, and hygiene are built into the day, supporting each child’s overall well-being.

In Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), loving relationships and emotional security are at the heart of all we do. Our experienced caregivers form close, consistent bonds with each baby, ensuring they feel secure, comforted, and cared for. Through gentle routines, eye contact, and one-to-one attention, we build trust and help babies develop confidence in themselves and their world. We recognise and respond to each baby’s unique personality, pace, and preferences — creating a sense of belonging and attachment that supports future learning. As babies approach their first birthday, they begin to show greater curiosity and awareness of their surroundings. They start to explore early sensory and creative experiences, laying the groundwork for the specific areas of learning such as Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Soft music, textures, lights, and stories engage their senses and spark joyful exploration.

Our team carefully observes and supports each baby’s developmental milestones, ensuring their individual needs are met in a calm, loving, and stimulating space. Through consistent care and meaningful interactions, we nurture the Characteristics of Effective Learning — Playing and Exploring, Active Learning, and Creating and Thinking Critically — even in the earliest months of life.

At Giggles and More Nursery, every cuddle, giggle, and discovery helps your baby grow into a happy, curious, and confident little learner.
